The School district announced its initial recommended budget for 2007-’08 on February 13. Larry Shanok, assistant superintendent for finance, said the district is targeting a 4.3 to 4.5 percent increase over 2006-’07. ##M:[more]##Based on last year’s budget of $141,”095,”578, this year’s total will be over $147 million.

According to the district the tax rate will not be known until the budget is finalized. The final numbers are due to be approved on Tuesday, March 27.

Shanok’s report did not include a complete breakdown of expected expenses. It outlines $109.6 million in operating expenses, $23.5 for general expense and $14 million for non-operating expenses.

The district has not estimated the distribution of taxes between the two towns. Last year, 42.2 percent was paid by Plainsboro and 57.8 percent by West Windsor.
