Two area writers received awards in the 14th Annual Joyce Indik New Jersey Wordsmith Competition and Second Annual Work in Process Forum. Both competitions were open to New Jersey residents ages 18 and over. The Wordsmith Competition accepted submissions of poems, essays, short stories and plays.##M:[more]##

Gene M. Corrado of West Windsor was awarded for “Old Rooster.” Born in Dolgeville, New York, he graduated from St. John’s University. Corrado, a sales professional, has had more than 25 poems and six short stories published, and is currently working on a book about the music business. He lives with his wife of 30 years and his three children.

Susan Matiejunas of Plainsboro was awarded for “My Street.” An artist and writer, she enjoys collecting autographs of celebrities and performers. She also enjoys recording music, videos, cassettes, movies, and concerts, as well as volunteering at her church.

Winning works will be read at the Work in Process Forum to be held at the South Brunswick Public Library, on Saturday, December 8, from 1 to 5 p.m., and on Sunday, December 9, from 2 to 5 p.m.
