It’s been a successful winter season so far for teams at both North and South, with both having claimed important victories over the past two weeks.

South’s girl’s swimming team first clenched the championship for the fourth time at the Mercer County Meet with a score of 310, a performance that included three relay records. The team then went on to handily defeat Steinert in the first round of the Central Group A. The team will face top-seeded Cherry Hill East at 7 p.m. on Friday, February 20, at North Brunswick to try to win the Group A championship.

Meanwhile, South’s girls’ track team took home the Central Jersey Group III championship, led by senior Gabi Hunter, who anchored the second-place 4×400 relay, as i in the Pirates’ defeat of Neptune.

The North boys have their own bragging rights, as the Knights also claimed the Group III title in track, a week after claiming the county championship, as expected after their superb winter season. Led by Jim and Joe Rosa, Ryan Sleeper, and Tyler Corkedale, the team finished with 88 points.

The South boys’ basketball team is on fire with a 19-2 record. The team’s 14-game winning streak ended on February 18 when it to Trenton Catholic Academy on February 18. However, they should be in good shape for the NJSIAA Grup IV tournament, which begins next month.
