Welch Faces Sexual Assault Charges

Christopher Welch, High School North’s athletic trainer and a gym teacher at High School South, was arrested May 28 on charges he inappropriately touched six female student-athletes.##M:[more]##

Welch, 39, of Newtown, PA, faces four counts of aggravated criminal sexual contact — a third degree crime — and two counts of criminal sexual contact — a fourth degree crime.

According to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, school officials contacted Plainsboro police on December, 28, 2007. A joint investigation between Plainsboro police and the prosecutor’s office determined that while he was the athletic trainer, he inappropriately touched the six students. He has been suspended with pay since December 28, 2007.

Information from the school district showed that Welch began working for the district as a gym teacher at High School South in 1993. In 1997, while maintaining his position at High School South, he became the sports athletic trainer at High School North and taught sports

medicine there.

Welch was released from custody after posting the $50,”000 bail.
