Nine rising seniors from High Schools North and South successfully completed the Urban Teacher Academy held this summer at the College of New Jersey. Participants from South included Neel Kumtakar, Rachel Gagliardo, Amrit Dhillion, Ahmed Elhaddad, Katelyn Kempf, Stephanie Welch, and Sahana Padmanabhan. Participants from North included Rizvi Zainab, and Rena Schiavo.

The intensive career exploration experience, with a focus on teaching in urban districts and/or high shortage subjects, was presented by the Center for Future Educators at TCNJ with funding provided by the New Jersey Education Association. The experience included lectures and discussions with professors and area educators; field trips to urban schools, special education classrooms, the New Jersey School for the Deaf, the Trenton Boys and Girls Club, and the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen.
