A Trenton man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early March 27.

Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey and Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson said an investigation by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force and Trenton’s Shooting Response Team led to the arrest.

At approximately 1 a.m. March 27, Trenton patrol officers were dispatched to the area of Beatty Street and Freudenmacher Alley following a ShotSpotter activation indicating a single gunshot.

Responding officers found Wilber Quib-Cuc, 20, of Trenton, in Freudenmacher Alley with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in critical condition.

Detectives returned to the scene the following day to continue canvassing the area. While there, investigators observed a man who matched the suspect description.

Darnell Housley, 40, of Trenton, was detained and found in possession of a 9mm handgun and suspected heroin. He was arrested and initially charged with weapons and narcotics offenses.

On March 28, Quib-Cuc died from his injuries.

Further investigation by the homicide task force and shooting response team led to additional weapons charges and a murder charge being filed against Housley on March 31.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion to detain him pending trial. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Mercer County Homicide Task Force Detective Tim Bruey at 609-989-6406 or submit tips anonymously at mercercountyprosecutor.com.

Housley has been charged, and the charges are accusations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
