Lee Werner, mathematics teacher at High School South, has received the Wal-mart Teacher of the Year Award. She will receive a $100 gift card for class supplies and a $1,”000 educational grant for her school.##M:[more]##

Nominated by a student, Werner has been a mathematics teacher in WW-P for 18 years. “Lee is a devoted, talented, hard-working teacher who always goes the extra mile for students,” says Chris Herte, 9-12 mathematics supervisor.

“Lee has the respect of the entire mathematics department and is extremely knowledgeable about her subjects,” says Charles Rudnick, principal at South. “She looks for new methods and recently attended professional development programs to learn ways to design and include electronic drawings in her worksheets and tests. We are extremely proud of her for this recent honor.”

Since Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year began in 1995, more than 30,”000 outstanding teachers have been honored. Wal-Mart contributed more than $67 million toward education.
