Students from Princeton String Academy in West Windsor performed well in string competitions in New York and New Jersey. The school, directed by Paul Manulik, provides Suzuki instruction in violin, viola, and cello for students ages four through high school. Visit www.stringacademy.net.

At the American Protege International Piano and Strings Competition in New York City, violist Sonal Gupta, 13, was selected to perform Georgian Dance by Sulchan Zinzadse. The performance was held at the Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall on November 3. Gupta, an eighth grade student at Community Middle School, studies viola privately with Manulik.

Three students from West Windsor were winners at the annual New Jersey Music Teachers Association’s Young Musicians’ competition held November 9. Scola Lee, 6, a violinist, took second prize in the 10 and under age group for string players. She is a second grade student at Princeton Friends School. Violists Ribhav Bose, 12, and Krishna Mallem, 16, took third prizes in their age groups. Bose is a seventh grader at Community Middle School and Mallem is a junior at High School South.

The students performed Sarabande in G Minor by Carl Bohn, Danza Latina by B. Balmages, and Concerto for Viola by Bela Bartok. Gupta, Bose, and Mallem play in their school orchestras. They will perform on Friday, December 20, at MarketFair.

Scott Langdon of Plainsboro is performing in “A Christmas Carol” every weekend through December 22 at the Media Theater in Media, Pennsylvania. The unique production uses minimal set pieces, relying on Dickens’ text and Langdon’s ability to portray every character in the story.

“Everyone from Jim Carrey to Patrick Stewart to the Muppets has had a guy at delivering this timeless tale, yet it continues to be relevant today. It gets to the heart and soul of the holidays with a message that is universal,” says Langdon. “It has been a dream of mine for years to bring this unique adaptation to the stage to bring the story to life in a whole new way.”

The production was produced in Princeton in 2009 and at East Brunswick Performing Arts Center in 2011. Langdon recently portrayed King Arthur in the Media Theater’s production of “Spamalot.” The Media Theater is at 104 State Street, Media. Visit mediatheatre.org or call 610-891-0100. Tickets are $15.
