The American Heart Assoication named Saint Francis Medical Center a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite.

AHA’s Fit Friendly Worksite program aims to motivate employers to make the health and wellness of their employees a priority.

St. Francis Medical Center was recognized as a Gold Level Fit-Friendly Worksite for offering employees physical activity support, providing and increasing healthy eating options, promoting a wellness culture and implementing at least nine criteria outlined by the AHA in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.

The medical center has a wellness committee that works to provide health and wellness activities for employees. Activities include nutritional education, fitness classes, screenings, an employee gym and a summertime farmers market.

“Physical activity and employee wellness are very important priorities here at the medical center and we encourage all of our employees to participate in all of the free, heart healthy activities that we provide each week,” Jerry Jablonowski, President and CEO of St. Francis, said in a statement.

St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Catholic Health East/Trinity Inc., is an acute care teaching hospital recently ranked by Consumer Reports in the top five hospitals in NJ for safety and number one in Mercer County.
