St. Francis Medical Center and Welcome House teamed up to deliver a Health and Wellness Fair for the Trenton community on Nov. 15. Over 250 people attended this free event, which provided flu shots and physicals for uninsured children as well as educational programs related to cholesterol, diabetes, breast health and more.

The event was sponsored by local community organizations such as Woman’s Space, Henry J. Austin, Greater Trenton Behavioral Health, Capital Health, NJ –SNAP, United Way, LALDEF and Children’s Futures as well as Welcome House, a community center that serves Trenton’s immigrants with education, advocacy and support.

Screenings were provided by LIFE St. Francis, The Comprehensive Care Practice, Infection Control, and the Diabetes Self-Management Program. The SFMC Nursing Students assisted with administering flu shots and blood pressure checks while St. Francis staff delivered educational presentations. Capital Health System provided glucose screenings and Horizon NJ Health provided flu shots for their insured patients.

Children enjoyed breakfast, lunch, face painting, a toy giveaway and bike raffle. The special guest was Jeff LeClair from GoNoodle, an online suite of interactive physical activity games designed to improve student engagement, behavior and performance using “brain breaks.” Each GoNoodle activity provides students with 3-5 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity they can perform next to their desks.
