Austin Witter, a 2012 High School South graduate, played basketball on the national stage in the NCAA men’s tournament. Witter helped North Carolina A&T University edge out Liberty, 73-72, in the opening round with eight points, six rebounds, and four blocked shots. The win was NC A&T’s first ever NCAA tournament win. The Aggies advanced to play Louisville but lost, 79-48.

Witter was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s Defensive Player of the Year, averaging 6.3 points and 7.1 rebounds per game. He finished the season with 109 blocked shots.

Ralph Aurora, a 2010 High School South graduate, leads his Ursinus College baseball team with a .310 average. The junior is 9-29 with two doubles and four runs scored. He also leads the 3-6 team in RBI with eight. Aurora played shortstop for the Pirates and is now a starter at Ursinus.

The WW-P High School Booster Club’s will hold its Alumni Sports Dinner on Saturday, April 6, from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Mercer County Community College Conference Center. Athletic director Marty Flynn, High School North soccer coaches Kevin Mackenzie and Trevor Warner, and High School South coaches Paul Hamnett, former head of the swim team, and Todd Smith, former football head coach and current boys’ track coach, will receive Lifetime Achievement awards.

Tickets are $75 for adults, $60 for students, and $40 for coaches. The cost includes a buffet dinner, dessert, and drinks. There will also be silent and live auctions. All proceeds go toward turf field lighting at both high schools. For more information visit wwphsboosters.org.

Smith, who has been coach of both football and track at South, has announced his resignation as football coach. The Board of Education recently approved the appointment of Howard Edwards as head coach.
