Boys’ Soccer

North (12-6-2): A loss to Freehold Borough, 1-0, on November 10, in the semifinals of the NJSIAA Group III Central Jersey tournament. Scala had 12 saves.

A win against Hightstown, 2-0, on November 6, in the NJSIAA Group III Central Jersey tournament quarterfinals. Goals: Nowak, Shah. Assist: Bell. Scala had 8 saves.

South (16-3-1): A loss to North Brunswick, 3-2, on November 6 in the sectional quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Group IV Central Jersey tournament. Goals: Cerrito. MacQueen had 9 saves.

Girls’ Soccer

North (10-9-1): A loss to Wall, 2-0, in the quarterfinal round of the Group III Central Jersey Tournament on November 5.

Field Hockey

North (17-5): A win against Robbinsville, 2-0, on November 10, during a regular-season game. Goals: Shiffa Rizki and Devin Brakel. Assists: Carpio, Brakel. Jackie Silva had 8 saves.

Boys’ Cross Country

North: The boys won the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group III Group Championship, with 64 points, on November 14. Joe Rosa won the Group III title in a time of 15:37, with Jim Rosa coming in a half-step behind in second, with the same time of 15:37. Jon Squeri acme in fourth, with a tim of 16:08.

The boys won the Central Jersey Group III sectional title at Thompson Park on November 7. 1.) Joe Rosa, 15:56; 2.) Jim Rosa, 15:56. 5.) Jon Squeri, 16:15.

South: A seventh place finish at the Central Jersey Group IV Group Championship, with 201 points, on November 14. Sam Macaluso came in third place with a time of 16:07. Brian Schoepfer came in 10th, with a time of 16:23.

A second place finish at the Central Jersey Group IV meet on November 7, with 106 points. 2.) Sam Macaluso, 15:58; 3.) Brian Schoepfer, 16:02.

Girls’ Cross Country

North: A 14th place finish, with 299 points, at the Central Jersey Group III Group Championship on November 14. Emily Scott placed fourth, with a time of 19:01.

Emily Scott placed first at the Central Jersey Group III meet at Thompson Park on November 7, with a time 18:36. The team finished fifth, with 153 points.

South: Caroline Kellner finished first, with a time of 18:43, at the Central Jersey Group IV Group Championship on November 14.

Caroline Kellner finished first at the Central Jersey Group IV meet on November 7, with a time of 18:14 defeating last year’s champion. South placed sixth, with a score of 195.

Volleyball

South: A loss to Old Tappan, 26-25, 24-11, in the quarterfinal round of the NJSIAA Group III tournament on November 6.

Sports Briefs

South graduate Dan Block, of Princeton Junction, a freshman at Denison, will play on the school’s men’s basketball team this year.

The Boys’ Varsity 8+ of the Mercer Junior Row Club took first place with a winning time of 4:28.81 on the 1,500-meter course at the Bill Braxton Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia on November 15. Rowers included Ian Douglas (cox), Nick Feibel, Paul Popescu, Hartman Beyers, Jason Elefant, Greg Kuhlman, Mike Massone, Stephen Woo, and Tom Piacentino. They were coached by Chris Callaghan. They were able to take home the Colette Family Trophy as a result of their win.

Also during the event, the Girls’ Varsity 2V 8+ took home a gold medal in its heat. Rowers included Maddie Alden (cox), Rena Gabai, Tara Thomas, Miranda Bull, Melissa Friedlander, Selena Soto, Britany Schwing, Elise Hu, and Cailtin MacFarlane. The rowers had a winning time of 5:18.25 and were coached by Sean McCourt.

The Mercer Juniors will now go into winter training to prepare for the spring season, when the club will host two regattas on Mercer Lake: the Mercer Sprints and the Northeast-MidAtlantic Regionals. Plainsboro resident Jimmy Merrow had 20 saves in SUNY Canton’s men’s ice hockey team’s 4-3 overtime win over Niagara Univeristy on November 13.
