Dennis Tuan and Ben Cornfeld fell just short of winning the state doubles championship, losing to Millburn’s Mike Flamm and Josh Israel, 6-4, 6-3 on Thursday, June 8.

The tandem went 19-2 together during the regular season, and beat three more sets of opponents to reach the finals. They are the second WW-P South duo to make the final match in the state tournament in the last three years.

Tuan hopes to continue playing at Rutgers next year. Cornfeld has another year at South, where he hopes to take Tuan’s spot as the top doubles player. Stewart Fernandez and Piray Sekar, the Pirates’ other doubles team, which went undefeated this season, will both return to the court next year. The team also welcomes back highly touted sophomore Leland Richardson, a singles player.
