The township has awarded a contract to New Hope Pipeliners, LLC, of Hackettstown, to repair the problems found in the sanitary sewer lines on North Post Road in the area of Jacob Drive. The cost of the contract is not to exceed $43,”527.##M:[more]##

The contract, awarded on January 20, comes a few months after the township had to make emergency repairs after a sewage spill in the area of 95 North Post Road, which cost $91,”208.57. Officials were hoping it was simply a sewer blockage, but it turned out to be a collapsed pipe. While the problem was being fixed, officials found that other areas of the sewer lines along North Post Road were vulnerable. This past fall the Department of Public Works identified future problem areas, prioritizing the repairs.

Prior to the sewer problems over the summer, there were other problems. In April, 2007, the system was damaged as a result of a rainstorm that deluged the entire region. The flooding caused a portion of the sewer system to collapse. A sinkhole on Wallace Road closed the road for several days.

The sanitary sewer lines on North Post Road near Jacob Drive have hydrogen sulfide damage, and are in deteriorated condition, and they need to be rehabilitated, according to township officials. The money for the project will come from the township’s emergency sewer repairs account.
