Victor Miller of West Windsor has been named a senior member of the Institute for Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). A regular member for 24 years, he has been a research mathematician at Center for Communications Research in Princeton since 1993. He previously worked at IBM’s Thomas Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, New York.##M:[more]##

A graduate of Columbia College with a bachelor’s degree in math, he received his master’s and doctorate from Harvard University. While at IBM he received three Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards and a Corporate Outstanding Technical Achievement Award. In 2001 IEEE awarded him the Millennium Medal for his achievement in data compression.

Miller is the co-inventor of two patents, “Data Compression Method,” and “Image Data Processing of Correlated Images.” He is also the inventor of elliptic curve cryptography which has become an important standard in communication.

His wife, Lynn Miller, is the community news editor of The News. His daughter, Rachel Miller, is a stage manager based in New York City.
