With most of the major construction work done at the senior center as part of the expansion project, Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh is anticipating a re-opening some time after Labor Day.##M:[more]##

Hsueh says he did a walk-through of the senior center this month and was “very impressed” with the progress of the work there.

“They’re doing the final touches, including painting and touching up and making sure some of the furniture, doors, and decorations are updated like a new facility,” says Hsueh of the construction progress.

Although Hsueh says the entire senior center will be re-opened soon after Labor Day, some of the sections of the newly-improved senior center will open within the next month.

The township broke ground on the first phase of the project at the township’s senior center in August, 2008. The first phase of construction included renovations to the existing building, five additional classroom or meeting rooms, bathrooms, and more storage space.

The $1.185 million contract for the first phase was awarded to Tri-Form Construction Inc. of Metuchen in June, 2008, for the first phase. A $500,”000 grant from the county, through County Executive Brian Hughes; a $100,”000 grant through Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein; and $50,”000 from the state Department of Community Affairs helped fund the project, with the rest coming from township funding. Hsueh said that he hopes the township will see the second phase of construction begin in 2010.
