The Trenton City Museum’s newest exhibition, “The Bigger Picture,” opens with a free reception on Saturday, March 3, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The four-person exhibition features work by Malcolm Bray, a British-born and New Hope-established painter and creator of decorative installations; French native and Paris-trained New Hope painter Jacques Fabert; German-American Bucks County-based sculptor Christoph Spath; and regionally known muralist and painter Illia Barger. New Hope-based real estate agent and Malcolm Bray associate Joan Ireland is the curator.
One regional connection to the exhibition is the unveiling of Barger’s mural project, “Trenton Makes.”
In a statement Barger says the three non site-specific works depict Trenton’s industrial past and honor the “workers during this incredibly productive time when the sheer output of their hands, heads, and hearts was astounding. Raw materials in and highly finished products out via trains, river, and canals earned rightfully earned the city its famous motto — ‘Trenton Makes the World Takes.’ Inside cavernous rooms with daylight streaming through big windows, factory workers labored to the chugging of machines run by steam power. Outside, men dug canals, rode log rafts down river, built bridges, loaded trains and barges, operated locks and fire pumps all with the backdrop of the flowing Delaware.”
The exhibition and designs are on view through April 29. The museum is free and open Wednesdays through Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m., and Sundays, 1 to 4 p.m.
