Science Olympiad Champions

In the middle school division, Community Middle School received first place in the state and Grover Middle School received second place. In the high school division, High School South received first place and High School North received second place.

The High School North and South Science Olympiad teams competed in a close competition that spanned 25 different events in engineering, experimental science, earth science, chemistry, physics, and biology. The national competition will be held in May. The High School North Science Olympiad coaches are Jim Looney and Richard Therkorn.

For the tenth year in a row, Community Middle School’s Science Olympiad team took first place in the New Jersey State Championship. As a result of the win, the team will participate in the national championship competition in May. Kyle Schimpf, a Social Studies teacher at CMS, is the team advisor.

Individual results for teams medaling in the top six positions include:

Anatomy: Sreeja Kondeti and Lyric Gupta (first place)

Compute This: Sundar Solai and Andrew Ding (third place)

Experimental Design: Brice Huang, Shreya Marathe, and Varun Subbiah (second place)

Ornithology: Vincent Wu and Shannon Sheu (second place)

Can’t Judge: David Xin and Sreeja Kondeti (fifth place)

Microbe Mission: Edison Lee and Lyric Gupta (first place)
