School Safety

As a West Windsor student, I strongly believe that the most crucial element of our school community is creating an atmosphere in which students feel safe in their own school. ##M:[more]##I highly support the school district’s decision to implement improved safety policies within the schools, as addressed in superintendent of schools Robert Loretan’s letter to WW-P parents.

After a year of numerous threats in WW-P schools, including High School North, Community Middle School, and Grover Middle School, it is clear that violence, and the potential threat of it, isn’t a rare occurrence in our community. It is necessary that the superintendent has taken this significant action and addressed the situation with gratifying solutions. The new safety policies mostly attend to staff members, like consistent I.D. badges and questioning a person not wearing a visitor’s badge. But, most importantly, Loretan’s plan also addresses the importance of discussions with students concerning their own responsibly to report unusual behavior. These frequent threats have taught students how to recognize the importance of their own actions, and the extreme consequences they may have on others. The WW-P school district has maintained an honorable and respected reputation, and taking these essential measures to protect our school keeps the town in that high regard. Thanks to the school safety plan, school district administrators can now continue to fulfill their responsibility of protecting the safety of students.
