Two Girl Scouts are raising funds for their Silver Award projects through a garage sale on Saturday, June 8, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 36 Pleasant Valley Way, West Windsor. Both girls are members of Troop 71016 with troop leaders Jan Cardinale and Theresa Gillars.

Larissa Wojtenko is an eighth grade student at Community Middle School. She will be creating a recipe book for the RISE Food Pantry, an organization that maintains a year-round supply of food for local families in need. The staff at the food pantry had already thought that a recipe book would be a useful addition to the pantry.

Wojtenko has organized a food drive at her school and plans to volunteer at the food pantry, distributing food samples and baskets with the recipe book and ingredients. The funds raised will be used for printing and binding costs for the recipe book, as well as for food used for samples and distribution. The recipe book will also be available online.

Julia Hu is an eighth grade student at Grover Middle School. “I’m building a library for the Trenton UrbanPromise, an organization that provides after school programs and summer camps for the underprivileged children of Trenton,” she says. “Through friends, neighbors, and teachers, I have so far collected more than 400 books of many different genres. The next step is to learn how to catalog these books and to collect funds for book shelves. When all is done, I will do read-alouds for the children there.”

Items for sale include a jogging stroller, a microwave, books, games, bicycles, toys, and miscellaneous items for kids.
