Housewives on Prozac are not people you would expect to call for entertainment at a benefit event. But a rock ’n’ roll group with exactly that name will headline at the Thursday, November 16, benefit for the Hadassah at Katmandu in Trenton.

West Windsor resident Melissa Magid, vice president of fundraising with Hadassah of the Greater Princeton Area, booked the Westchester County, New York-based group after seeing them on a news program last year. Housewives on Prozac “is comprised of working moms whose music bursts with humor, rock, and fabulous outfits,” she says.

The Center for Emergency Medicine at Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center, says Magid, “sets the standard for health care in the Middle East and treats more than 1 million patients annually without regard to race, religion, or national origin.”

Magid graduated from Brandeis University and has a graduate degree in accounting from Northeastern. Her husband, Mark, has degrees in accounting from Syracuse. The couple met when they were both working for an accounting firm in New York City.

“His family owns Country Ponds Camp but he never got to go to camp because he always had to work,” she says. Together they found property and built Black Bear Lake Camp. While she is part-time during the fall months, her husband works fulltime throughout the year.

They lived on the property until their third child was born. “We knew it was time to get a real house,” she says. They had met so many camper families from West Windsor and moved to Windsor Park Estates eight years ago. Their children are Morgan, 10, a student at Village School; Jason, 8, and Lauren, 7, both students at Dutch Neck School.

A member of Hadassah for six years, Magid has already chaired the gift wrap program at malls and edited the newsletter. She was recently named vice president of fundraising. “The benefit evening is open to both men and women,” says Magid.

Housewives on Prozac, Hadassah Princeton Chapter, Katmandu, Waterfront Park, Trenton, 609-799-5999. www.hadassahprinceton.org. Rock concert, appetizers, wine, and dessert. $50. Thursday, November 16, 7 p.m.
