The Princeton Youth Hockey Association Tigers U12 Orange team is helping to warm the hearts of homeless people in our community, two feet at a time.
The team is collecting 1,000 pairs of new socks through their Warm Feet, Warm Heart drive. The socks will be donated to The Joy of Sox, a non-profit organization that aims to provide joy to the homeless with new socks.
While it can be hard for a 12-year-old to imagine people who want nothing more than socks for the holidays, the collection drive exposed the team to the reality that there are many people who are in desperate need of basic items.
“Our kids put on socks every day, but the homeless don’t as it’s the least donated item,” Sue Tame, mother of Caeden Harvey-Tame of the U12 team, said. “There is a desperate need for socks as the cold weather approaches.”
The U12 Tigers have placed a collection bin at ProSkate Ice Arena in Monmouth Junction. Just two days into the drive, the sock tally already totaled 185 pairs, including four pairs donated by the ProSkate Pro Shop.
The Warm Feet, Warm Heart sock drive will continue through Dec. 22. If you would like to make a donation of new socks but are unable to make it to ProSkate, contact Sue Tame at sue@suetame.com for alternate drop-off arrangements.
