Princeton psychologist earns Association for Applied Sport Psychology designation

Dr. Jonathan Pastor, a licensed clinical psychologist in Princeton, was recently designated a Certified Consultant by the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, an international professional organization of sport and exercise psychology.

In earning this certification, Pastor has met required AASP standards of education and training in the sport sciences and psychology and undergone a rigorous review process.

As a senior psychologist at Princeton University, Pastor provides individual and group therapy, evaluation and crisis management to students with the University’s Counseling and Psychological Services, part of University Health System.

Dr. Pastor formed and coordinates the multi-disciplinary TIGERSPAW (TIGER Student-Athlete Performance and Wellness) Team at UHS, a consortium of psychologists, physicians, athletic trainers and social workers committed to enhancing the mental health and performance of student athletes.

In his private practice, Pastor provides psychotherapy and counseling to adults and adolescents on issues including depression, anxiety, attention deficits, insomnia, substance abuse and relationships.

He also works with college and high school students on issues pertaining to their sports, such as performance anxiety, concentration, confidence building, preparation and communication. His sport specialties include track and field, swimming, endurance sports, rowing, soccer, and wrestling.

Pastor earned his master’s and doctoral graduate degrees in psychology from Rutgers University, and his bachelor’s degree from Brown University.

In addition to AASP, he is a member of the American Psychological Association and the New Jersey Psychological Association.

Founded in 1986, The AASP promotes ethical practice, science and advocacy in the field of sport and exercise psychology.
