Princeton Learning Cooperative students are learning to cook through the school’s new partnership with Ezekiel’s Table.
Each week PLC’s cooking class takes a trip to Marcia Willsie’s boutique cooking school Ezekiel’s Table.
Students decide what they will make and take lead in the class, teaching themselves to cook dishes like Thai chicken satay and peanut dipping sauce.
PLC co-director Joel Hammon said the partnership allows students explore their passion for food and interest in food industry careers.
“We help our members identify what opportunities and learning they want in their life and then support that desire in a number of ways. When a handful of members were interested in cooking we went out into the community to find volunteers, resources and opportunities and we are really excited that we were able to find someone as accomplished as Marcia to work with us.,” Hammon said in a statement.
Willsie said she enjoys working with PLC and wishes she had a similar schooling option as a teenager.
“If I had been able to learn about politics, geography and history by reading about the horrors of the early spice trade, I would have been fascinated. As it was, school felt fairly irrelevant; It was painful, actually. I’m so glad that there is such an option in this area for high school kids today,” Willsie said in a statement.
The Princeton Learning Cooperative is a school that supports teenagers to leave traditional public and private schools to create a life and education based on their interests, abilities and goals.
