Its close proximity to the many cultural and leisurely activities associated with Princeton, as well as the large business and research hubs that have made their home in Plainsboro have helped land the township in Fortune Small Business Magazine’s Top 100 Places to Live and Launch, released on March 26.##M:[more]##

Plainsboro came in at number 52 in the nation, and the article lists good transportation infrastructure and great schools as positive attributes in its selection of the town.

“Plainsboro, just around the corner from Princeton University, is home to the university’s Forrestal Campus, a large research facility,” the article states. “While Merrill Lynch and Bristol-Myers Squibb have established major operations here, the area also offers strong manufacturing and retail sectors.”

The article mentions high taxes as a con, but the author says that local businesses benefit from the township’s close location to Route 1, the Turnpike, and train stations. And dining and cultural opportunities in nearby Princeton as well as in the Village Center, and the new library, also received kudos.

The methodology used by the magazine included data collection of federal, state, and city statistics including tax rates and job growth, and an assessment of lifestyle factors like the number of parks and arts venues located within 15 miles, it states. The magazines also says it interviewed entrepreneurs, local officials, and business experts to find the towns with the “strongest small-business programs” and “the most appealing leisure resources.”
