In a diverse community, the public library becomes an important resource for English as a Second Language learners. To assist the Plainsboro Public Library in filling that role the American Library Association has made a grant of $8,600 to help expand the library’s literacy services to adult English-language learners.

The grant will also enable Plainsboro to offer a course emphasizing grammar and pronunciation along with immersion in American culture and daily life. At least one class will offer tips for navigating the American healthcare system.

“The library is proud of the services and resources which are currently available to its ESL patrons and is excited to be able to supplement them with additional programs,” said Carol Quick, the library’s acting director.
