Barring the appearance of a write-in candidate on election day (Tuesday, November 6), Democrats Michael Weaver and Ed Yates are assured a return to their fourth consecutive three-year terms on township committee.##M:[more]##

According to Pat Hullfish, Plainsboro township clerk, no Republican candidates filed for this November’s election, and there were no write-in candidates in the June 5 primary who received the 20 votes necessary to be placed on the ballot to oppose Weaver and Yates.

The Republican party in Plainsboro has all but ceased to exist, at least as far as municipal elections are concerned. No Republican has been elected to municipal office since the early 1990s. Since then, the Republicans frequently have not fielded a candidate for township committee. Only about 300 of the township’s 9,”734 registered voters showed for the primary.
