P’boro Celebrates Founders Day

Plainsboro’s 29th Founders Day Celebration, the annual community celebration commemorating the incorporation of the township on May 6, 1919, will be held on Sunday, May 4. The event will kick off with a traditional parade through town to the festival grounds at the municipal center. Scheduled to depart from Waters Edge Park on Pond View Drive at 12:30 p.m., the parade will follow Edgemere Avenue to Plainsboro Road to the municipal center. Children who would like to march or ride bikes with the parade may do so by joining the Kids Kaboose at Wicoff School.##M:[more]##

Featured participants include High Schools North and South marching bands, Central Jersey Antique Auto Club, Chinese Drummers, Wicoff, Town Center, and Millstone PTAs, Giant Library Puppets, Plainsboro’s Town Crier, Korean Dancers, school clubs, local community groups and cultural organizations, and fire and rescue vehicles. Area residents and representatives of community groups will be participating in a parade of international flags celebrating Plainsboro’s cultural diversity.

Following opening ceremonies at approximately 1 p.m., visitors will be able to participate in a wide range of activities and live entertainment. Featured performers include Give & Take Jugglers, Mad Science, High School North and South jazz ensembles, Jazzercise, Plainsboro Chinese School folk performances, children’s dance groups, martial arts demonstrations, and cultural performances. The Plainsboro Historical Society’s Wicoff House features displays of local history, and sponsor a special exhibit highlighting early photography. New performers this year include Wahoo Flying Flea Circus and Phydeaux Medicine Show.

Games and amusements include a superslide, radical run, miniature golf, and moon bounce, and giant chess. Food concessions will be run by non-profit organizations.

Event parking is available at Enterprise Drive across the street from the municipal center. There will be no public parking at the municipal building. Residents are advised that road closings and detours will be in effect in the vicinity of the municipal center throughout the day. — Lynn Miller
