We have reported before in this space about the Princeton-based start-up that has devised a smartphone-connected parking meter that would allow motorists to reserve a space as they come into town, direct them to the location of the space, and then charge them through their cell phone accounts. The company, Possumus, had hoped to put a half dozen of its meters on Nassau Street and Palmer Square last summer, but various operational and bureaucratic snags intervened.
But now the smart meters are “live,” in the parking lot at Craft Cleaners at 225 Nassau Street after 6 p.m. on weekdays and after 5 on Saturdays.
Because the meters are only temporarily installed, the entrepreneur responsible for them, Arash Sadeghi, goes to the lot every night to set them up and then take them back to his home. That gives him the opportunity to stand outside the lot with a sign inviting people to park for free. Participants are briefed on the concept and its online app by Sadeghi. While Princeton residents help Sadeghi beta test the meters, he is also in a conversation with officials in Cranford, who are also interested in the meters.
