The gallery at Plainsboro Public Library presents “There Are Places I Remember,” an exhibit of vibrant oil paintings by East Windsor artist Maxine Shore, from April 2 to 27. A reception will be held Sunday, April 10, from 2 to 4 p.m.

“Even when a painting is representational there exists an abstract dynamic below the surface. Exploring the interplay of shapes, patterns of lights and darks, and composition all contribute to the final outcome,” Shore says in a press release. “So many moments escape our notice because we are caught up in the minutiae of daily life. My purpose in painting is to freeze those fleeting scenes and to invite you to share them with me.”

Originally from New York City, Shore was educated at Chatham College, Middlebury College, and Parsons School of Design. She has also received training at the Art Students’ League, the School of Visual Arts, and the National Academy in New York. She is a member of the Artists’ Gallery in Lambertville, the New York Society of Women Artists, and Artsbridge. After 25 years as an art and French teacher, she now paints full-time.

Shore uses strong, pure color, and bold brush work to convey emotion. Her landscapes tend toward the abstract, and capture the texture, light, and brilliant colors of various picturesque locales. The viewer is invited to visit the coastlines of Monterey, California (“Big Sur”), the Italian Riviera (“Cinque Terre”), Cape Cod, Central Park, and Bucks County, Pennsylvania.
