No longer will municipal elections in West Windsor be held in May. Rather, elections for mayor and members of the Township Council will take place in November.
The council approved an ordinance on March 1 — with hardly a peep from residents or council members — that officially moves the nonpartisan municipal elections, as permitted under a new state law. West Windsor is the first Faulkner Act municipality in the state that has approved moving the elections to November.
The township stands to save about $50,000 each year. The change does not go into effect until January 1, 2011. The law stipulates that current office-holders’ terms would be extended to the start of newly elected office-holders in the November election.
