Plainsboro is looking to adopt a sign management plan that would improve street sign visibility in the township. At the township committee meeting on Wednesday March 28, Business Administrator Robert Sheehan said that a resolution on the agenda for April 11 will allow the township to meet new federal requirements for street signs, and a plan to replace all of Plainsboro’s street signs over the next several years would go into effect.

Unrelated to the resolution, Mayor Peter Cantu asked Sheehan to look into replacing signs for Plainsboro Park, Mapleton Road, and Canal Road that he feels are in poor condition. In other news:

— Sheehan reported that the township received a $250,000 grant from the state Department of Transportation for improvements on Plainsboro Road, Parkway Avenue, and Schalks Crossing Road.

– The Township Committee approved a resolution for a state contract to purchase furniture for the new township recreational center for $180,000. Sheehan specified the furniture as the single largest expense left for the project. Originally the township estimated a cost of $132,000 but there were parts of the facility that had not yet been taken into account.

– The committee authorized an agreement with Mercer County for the WW-P Municipal Alliance, which allocates $2,200 as Plainsboro’s share of a $22,000 grant.
