The High School North Girls’ soccer team defeated South on September 13. The 1-0 victory ended a lengthy drought that saw North lose or tie every game against its cross-town rival for the last seven years.

Sara Hayduchok scored the game winner with 18 minutes left in the game off a corner kick by Jennifer Ibanez.

The two teams tied in regular-season matchups the last two years, but the Pirates defeated the Knights in Mercer County Tournament rematches later in the season.

North last defeated South in 2004, 4-1.

North goalie Stefanie Wisotsky made six saves behind a defense led by Brie Jacques, Christine Niciforo, and Marisa Edwards.
