The High School North boys’ epee squad — William Zhang, Prashant Baliga, Amit Sarma, Dan Yang, and Danush Gupta — recently captured the 2016 NJSIAA State Epee Championship. It is the squad’s third major championship this year; the boys previously won the NJIFA Cetrulo tournament and the District 2 title.

Both Baliga and Sarma had sisters in the fencing program during its earlier years. Anjali Baliga and Deesha Sarma won the girls’ epee District 2 title for the first time in Knight fencing history back in 2008, and Baliga later became the first Women’s Epee State Champion from North in 2009.

The North epee girls — Tianna Kwok, Kristina Khaw, and Lillian Chen — placed fourth at the NJSIAA State Championships, and the girls’ sabre squad — Celine Demorre, Sophia Zhuang, and Michelle Tong — placed sixth.
