Michael Hasling was honored for becoming an Eagle Scout at a Court of Award ceremony at Dutch Neck Presbyterian Church on September 17. A senior at High School South, he led the creation of a new hiking trail in the woods at West Windsor’s Ron Rogers Arboretum. The effort took 279 volunteer hours by 48 volunteers.##M:[more]##

Hasling’s scouting life began as a tiger scout in first grade and he was Troop 40’s senior patrol leader this year. His 18th birthday was in July and he was able to be assistant scoutmaster at the 2005 National Jamboree in Virginia.

He co-founded the technical lighting club at High School South and has been a member of the student council. He is a distance swimmer for the school’s swim team, as well as for the West Windsor Whalers. Academically, he is taking all honors and AP courses this year. He is also a member of the German Honor Society and the National Honor Society.

He is the son of Bill, Troop 40 Scoutmaster, and Diane. Honorees at the reception included State Assemblyman Bill Baroni, West Windsor Council Member Linda Geevers, Manolo Capili of the Knights of Columbus, Scott Crass of Representative Linda Greenstein’s office, and Michael Rosenbaum from Boy Scout’s Central New Jersey Council.

Said Assistant Scoutmaster Tim Reil: “Michael is a great role model for all boys, with his great academic and athletic accomplishments in addition to his great leadership in Troop 40.”
