Beth Carroll of West Windsor has had a mid-life career change. After 25 years in labor relations she has been studying to be a gemologist for the past 18 months. She recently received a scholarship from the Gemologist Institute of America.##M:[more]##
Carroll has already earned several diplomas from the school and graduated from the diamond program. Carroll studies both at home and in New York City. Carroll has been a sales associate with Pratico Jewelers in Hamilton since October, 2006. When she heard about the $500 scholarship she felt challenged to write an essay and apply. “My mother got a kick of this — she got a scholarship when she was going for her master’s degree in her midlife,” she says.
Carroll and her husband, Tom Carroll, a partner at Hill Wallach, the Carnegie Center-based law firm, have lived in West Windsor since 1992. Their sons are Tommy, a junior at High School South, and Jordan, an eighth grade student at Grover Middle School.
“I have always liked jewelry — especially estate jewelry,” she says. “It spoke to me as art.”
