Morven Museum digs up the past

Hunter Research is set to give tours of their current excavation site at Morven Museum & Garden.

In Pursuit of Yesterday: A Family Day of Archaeological Discovery is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the museum, 55 Stockton St., Princeton.

The event includes activities for children and adults. Children must be accompanied by a participating adult.

Hunter Research recommends participants wear close-toed shoes and comfortable clothes.

Throughout the day, archaeologists are set to lead Family Artifact Processing sessions. Participants will have the opportunity to experience of handling, cleaning and studying artifacts found on the Morven grounds at a workstation at the carriage house.

Interpretive Tours by Archaeologists are scheduled for 9:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Archaeologists will guide participants on a tour of various workstations set up on the property and share information about methods used and what they have discovered during their excavation.

No reservation is required, but space is limited for each tour.

Visitors age 16 and older can join archaeologists for a hands-on experience. During the hour-long program, participants will work side-by-side with archaeologists to learn first-hand techniques for excavating a historical site.

Sessions are scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
