The Mercer Creating Assets, Savings and Hope (CASH) Campaign is teaming up with United Way of Greater Mercer County to offer expanded free tax preparation services.

The first Super Tax Days of the season are scheduled for 4 to 8 p.m. January 30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. January 31 and 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Feb. 1 at the First Baptist Church, 128 Centre Street, Trenton.

Tax prep is on a first come, first serve basis. Individuals need to bring a photo ID, copy of 2012 tax return social security numbers for themselves and their children, W2 forms, 1099 forms and bank account information.

Free tax days kicks off on National EITC Day; a nationwide effort to increase awareness about Earned Income Tax Credit and free tax preparation sites. EITC is a valuable but complex tax break for working families but help is available during free filing sessions throughout Mercer County.

Individuals who worked in 2013 may qualify for several refundable tax credits. Earned Income Tax Credit can be up to $6,044, Child Tax Credit is $1,000 per child and NJ State EIC can add an additional 20 percent to a refund.

The Mercer CASH Campaign and UWGMC run IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program offers free tax help to people who generally make $52,000 or less. There are IRS-certified volunteers at all tax sites are trained in basic tax law. Many locations have volunteers who speak other languages and can assist those we have difficulty communicating in English.
