The Princeton Symphony Orchestra Soundtracks Series is set to continue on April 23 at 7 p.m. with a talk featuring Matthew Guerrieri, author of The First Four Notes: Beethoven’s Fifth and Human Imagination.

In his book, Guerrieri uncovers possible sources for the famous opening notes of the symphony in the rhythms of ancient Greek poetry and certain pre-Revolutionary French symphonies. He traces the Fifth’s influence in China, Russia and the United States and shows us how it was used by both the Allies and the Nazis in World War II.

Guerrieri is a writer, pianist and composer. He writes regularly for The Boston Globe and NewMusicBox.

The talk will take place in the community room at Princeton Public Library located at 65 Witherspoon Street, Princeton.
