Your number may be up at Plainsboro Public Library’s second annual Mathemania event. Celebrating National Library Week and National Math Month together, the library has assembled an eclectic mix of fun, numbers, and modern day library research in challenges for everyone from pre-K to senior citizen with a chance for medals, trophies, and prize money on Friday, April 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. The evening’s events are free.##M:[more]##

Each year, to celebrate National Library Week, the library assembles a set of questions with numerical answers that can be found in their specialized databases. Winners are drawn at random from all correct entries, and could win as much as $100. “We’ve got your Number” entries for this contest, will be available at the library. Completed entries must be returned by 5 p.m. on April 6.

A little known secret is that library cards are available to both Plainsboro and West Windsor residents. The latter are eligible to receive a reciprocal bar code.

Adults, as well as kids, are encouraged the take the challenge and learn about the new-age research databases. This is not Google, with thousands of useless “hits.” The library’s subscription databases provide tailored responses with high quality source material.

Tutors are standing by live and free through the library’s website. If you are ready to brush up on your Russian the Rosetta Stone Language Lab is waiting. All free and easy to use at home — or at the library.

Events at Mathemania will include four estimating challenges from 7 to 8 p.m.; head to head computer research combat from 7:30 to 8:30; and a unique opportunity to compete with fellow Sudoku fanatics.

Adults be forewarned that last year’s honors, in almost all categories, went to kids. One student, challenged in the estimania contest to read Dr. Seuss out loud for 20 seconds, did precisely that. Twenty seconds. On the dot. To get a jump start, on the head-to-head info combat, library staff recommend going to www.lmxac.org/plainsboro, and the databases currently offered online.

We’ve Got Your Number!, Plainsboro Public Library, 641 Plainsboro Road, 609-275-2897. www.lmxac.org/plainsboro. Friday, April 7, 7 to 9 p.m.
