Arlene Cohen of Plainsboro, a middle school math teacher at Princeton Day School since 1997, was honored with the Robert C. Whitlock Award for Distinguished Teaching, the school’s highest honor for faculty.##M:[more]##

The award includes a stipend for professional study, travel, or other work that contributes to the recipient’s continuing excellence as a teacher.

Her math classes blend traditional lectures, group work, computer tutorials, student presentations, quiet guided practice sessions, math competitions, and the creation of geometric figures. “She’s gifted at both challenging the precocious and raising confidence in those less mathematically certain,” says Warren Gould, director of academic affairs at PDS.
