Rosanne Jacks of West Windsor is one of 23 area residents who recently became Master Gardeners of Mercer County after a graduation ceremony held at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Mercer County.##M:[more]##

The graduates completed 60 hours of instruction by Mercer County Horticulturist Barbara J. Bromley, faculty from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences of Rutgers University, and other horticultural experts in a wide variety of horticultural related subjects.

Although the requirement is 60 hours of volunteer service to Mercer County, Jacks received a special award for more than 100 hours of volunteer time.

The volunteer program began in 1972 to meet the enormous increase in requests from home gardeners for horticultural information. The program has expanded to all 50 states and Canada and 19 of New Jersey’s 21 counties now have Master Gardener programs. This class is the thirteenth to graduate in Mercer County.

Master Gardeners participate in many volunteer programs throughout the county, as well as answer home horticulture questions through the Rutgers Master Gardener Helpline at 609-989-6853, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or at www.mgofmc.org.
