Girl Scouts from Troop 70891 partnered with Mrs. Green’s Natural Market to kick off a quarterly lunchbox party for the residents of the Gables Senior Community in West Windsor. During the “Party in a Box” themed luncheon on July 12 the girls sang for the guests and served lunch and homemade desserts.

The ninth grade scouts include Srushti Ghone, Cecelia Baumann, Arianna Capuano, Poonam Kulkarni, Patricia Saunders, and Elizabeth Kelley. They worked with Kaitlyn Valluzzo, Mrs. Green’s nutrition and wellness specialist, and Jason Freeman, Mrs. Green’s store manager. Their leaders are Lin Baumann and Betsy Wallace Saunders.

The girls started this as the “Take Action” part to complete their year-long “Sow What Journey” project, which focuses on where food comes from, how to prepare it, and how to serve it to those in your community. It is a pre-requisite for completing the Gold Award project.

“The idea flowed out of the troop’s enthusiasm for serving guests at the Princeton One Table dinners this winter and spring,” says Saunders. “When Mrs. Green’s Natural Market opened right across the street from the Gables, a couple of scouts who live in the Princeton Junction neighborhood thought it was worth investigating.”

“The residents loved the entire afternoon,” said Dottie Sylvester, the resident services coordinator of the Gables.
