Jeff Grabell’s third grade class at Dutch Neck Elementary School donated $507.50 to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces for disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to medical conditions.

The students nominated various organizations and then made a presentation to the class about why they should choose a particular organization. The project had a special twist in that the students studied math, statistics, probability, and marketing to raise the funds. The students prepared a special dessert, which they made, marketed, and sold to classmates during lunch. After deducting the cost of materials, they were proud to send the profits to Locks of Love.
