Residents in Plainsboro will start to see structural steel beams going up at the site of the new Plainsboro library in the heart of Village Center within the next week or two.

According to library director Jinny Baeckler, the remainder of the slab has been poured for the basement, and construction crews are currently finishing up pouring the slab for the ground level floor. The foundation has taken a little bit longer than expected because Plainsboro’s water table is so high, and a little extra work work was needed, Baeckler said. But crews are preparing to add in the steel, which will be on site by next week.##M:[more]##

“It’s moving on,” Baeckler said. “Some of us hope it might be ahead of schedule.” Completion is set for sometime between next spring and summer, she said.

The $12.4 million library project broke ground in December, after a contract was awarded to H&S Mechanical of Elizabeth. It will be a three-story, 34,”000-square foot building. In addition, the library will feature a health education center and independent study rooms on the second floor.
