The WATS Youth Group is leading fundraising efforts for the purchase of a Community Wentzscope Microscope at the Plainsboro Library.

According to a press release from the organization, “the Wentzscope is easy to view and simple to adjust, making it ideal for children.” The library has the estimated $3,000 needed to purchase the microscope, but officials want to purchase a laminating system so that library patrons can make their own slides. That will cost $2,000, which the WATS organization is try to raise.

The microscope is durable and has piqued children’s interest in science at top museums including the New York Hall of Science, London Zoo, and the Virginia Museum of Natural History, the press release stated.

The WATS Youth Group, is a nonprofit science-oriented youth group that meets about once a month in the Central New Jersey area. It consists of female high school students who express an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

Donors can make their checks or money orders payable to the Plainsboro Public Library, with “microscope” written in the memo line. For more information, visit www.youngerscientists.org, call 732-600-1670, or E-mail admin@youngerscientists.org.

A donation for the microscope at the library may qualify as a charitable contribution. The library’s tax ID number is 22-2726100.
