On Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 6:30 p.m, the four-time Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Ladysmith Black Mambazo will be presented by, and alongside, the Princeton University Glee Club at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall, Princeton.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is celebrated as one of the finest a cappella groups in the world, with a sound that is as captivating as it is unmistakable. Proclaimed by The Guardian as “one of the most revered singing groups on Earth,” they are the most enduring ambassadors for South African musical culture for over fifty years. The group’s story is indelibly bound to the struggle and extraordinary emergence of the free South African nation at the end of the last century.

Although they have collaborated with some of the greatest stars of the music world—from Stevie Wonder to Dolly Parton to Paul Simon—Ladysmith Black Mambazo is most eager to collaborate with youth. Joseph Shabalala, the founder of the group, intends that the music they sing will continue to “keep South Africa alive in people’s hearts” generation after generation.

Over the many years of its history, the ensemble has welcomed in younger members into their numbers to continue passing on their stories and calls for peace, love and harmony to audiences all over the world. After performing classics, the group will give the stage over to students in the Princeton University Glee Club. These students will offer highlights from the Glee Club’s recent tour to South Africa including ‘Imfundo’ (Education), a new work written for the Glee Club by the South African composer, singer and dancer Sbongiseni Duma. The performance will be a culmination of the Glee Club’s work with Duma and also a result of a special workshop with members of Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

Tickets to the event are $15 for general admission and $5 for students. Tickets can be purchased by phone at (609) 258-9220, online at tickets.princeton.edu, or at the Frist Campus Center Box Office.
