Transportation Commissioner Kris Kolluri, a West Windsor resident, became the first Indian governor of New Jersey when he stood in for Jon Corzine on Thursday, December 28.##M:[more]##
Corzine is currently on vacation, and State Senate President John O. Bennett, who is acting governor when Corzine is away, attended the Rutgers football bowl game in Houston, TX. Assembly Speaker Joseph J. Roberts Jr., and Attorney General Stuart Rabner both were unavailable, so Kolluri, fourth and last in line to be acting governor, was sworn in at Drumthwacket that morning.
Kolluri, 38, has been transportation commissioner since last March. He served as assistant commissioner and chief of staff before being appointed commissioner.
“It’s pretty awesome. At best, I’ll be remembered by my family as the governor. At worst, I’ll be a good Jeopardy question,” said Kolluri.
Kolluri brought his wife, Lopa and two daughters — Mira, 5, and Rania, 10 months — to Drumthwacket for photos when he was sworn in. The family lives on Normandy Drive.
