Students at Maurice Hawk Elementary School in West Windsor celebrated reaching the halfway mark in the fifth annual Princeton HealthCare Kids Marathon with a special training session and incentive prizes. The students were joined by Dr. Margaret Lancefield, medical director of the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center at University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro. Proceeds from the Kids Marathon benefit the center.

“The Princeton HealthCare Kids Marathon provides children an opportunity to exercise and stay fit while also giving back to the community,” said Lancefield. “I look forward to seeing everyone at the finish line on race day.”

Lancefield presented the children with pins recognizing their accomplishment. Race director Jennifer Mimnaugh kicked off the training session with stretches and jumping jacks, after which the students completed a 1.25-mile jog.

Hosted by Community Connection of Princeton HealthCare, the Kids Marathon is a 10-week training program in which kids walk, run, or roll 2.5 miles a week. They then gather at Princeton University Stadium on race day — Sunday, June 9, at 9:30 a.m., to complete the last 1.2 miles of the marathon together. Super Bowl champion Stephen Baker and Bart Oats, a five-time pro-bowler, will be running with the kids on race day.

Though training is underway, children in kindergarten through eighth grade may register until Wednesday, May 15. After May 15, they can register for the 1.2-mile Fun Run only.

Community Connection will also host its annual 10K adult race on Sunday, June 9, at 8 a.m. Visit www.princetonkidsmarathon.org or call 609-853-6102.
