Kelsey Theatre is set to kick off its Kids Series with the Velveteen Rabbit.

Theatre IV is scheduled to perform the show 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Oct. 19 at the theatre on Mercer County Community College’s West Windsor campus, 1200 Old Trenton Road.

Based on the children’s book by Margery Williams, this stage musical combines the power of childhood play with the ageless need for unconditional love. Written by Thomas Hammond, with music and lyrics by Ron Barnett, this production boasts songs and detailed period costumes that transport the audiences to the beginning of the 20th century.

Tickets are $10 for children and seniors, and $12 for adults.

Founded in 1975, Theatre IV is a nonprofit, professional theater that seeks to benefit children, families and schools with innovative, educational theatrical productions. Based in Richmond, Va., the company tours throughout 31 states and the District of Columbia.
